He was also a Boston Marathon bombing survivor. Jeffrey Garske, 66, of Hilton Head died at the scene of the crash on the Cross Island Parkway, according to David Ott, deputy coroner for the Beaufort County Coroners Office. The crash happened in the area of Marshland Road, Lance Cpl. Matthew Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol said. Garske was riding a bicycle on the eastbound right shoulder when he was struck around 5:45 p.m. by a 2011 Ford Pickup truck driven by Richard George Alford, 64, also of Hilton Head, Southern said. Garske and his wife, Donna Garske, survived the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, according to a story in The Island Packet at the time.
